Dominic Montani
Loving husband, father and grandfather
Born: August 11, 1918
Died: February 19, 1994 in Hamilton, ON
Interred: Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington
Dad met our mother when they worked the night shift at Jackson’s Bakery. They married November 4, 1944. He was the loving husband of Dorothy for 49 years and forever remains in her heart. He was a special father to Mary Jo and her husband Ed Dunn, Don and his wife Wendy and Donna Lee and her husband Tom McConville. He was a proud grandfather of five: Donna-Marie and Jason Montani, and Lisa, Shari and Eddie Dunn.
Dad was a ‘one of a kind’ kind of guy. He had a crazy sense of humour. He would tear his napkin in half and share it with his grandchildren since he felt it was too big just for one person. He loved nicknames and called Ed ‘knucklehead’. Dad’s nickname was ‘Mooney’.
He loved garage sales and Saturday would find him out and about hunting for and bringing home treasures. He loved talking to the people wherever he went. Dad always carried a package of Pepsin Chiclets in his pocket. At the funeral home the night before the funeral, the grandkids shared a box of Pepsin Chiclets and placed the box in his pocket where it always was, close to his heart.
Dad was an avid collector of brass. He loved finding a new piece or receiving one as a gift. His eyes would light up. Every piece had a story.
For Dad, family was everything. Nooney came alive when surrounded by the little ones. He was funny and made them laugh when he created the number, ‘eleventeen,’ or called the boys ‘girls’ or their dog ‘cat.’ He always sat on his front porch and all the neighbourhood kids would come to visit him. He always made time for them while he read his paper and drank his tea.
We have a family tradition. Anything in groups of three means ‘I love you.’ Dad would always leave our homes and flick his car lights three times to tell us he loved us.
Dad had a wonderful 75th birthday celebration to celebrate his blessings. He was surrounded by loving family and friends. Shortly after, he discovered he had cancer and after a valiant struggle, died February 19, 1994. He died with his loving family by his side. He is greatly missed and never forgotten, but we know he is in heaven smiling down on us and on the great-grandchildren he never had a chance to meet. He truly blessed our lives. 1-2-3
