Beloved husband and best friend of Joanne Paltridge (Scime). Loving fathe of John (Carla), Joe (Delia), Leonard (Robin), the late Christopher (Sandy), the late Loretta (Bill), Kathleen (Brent), Patricia (Ryke), and Thomas (Leah). Gerald will be sadly missed by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family members and dear friends.

He retired after 32 years at Stelco and after that started Gerry’s Handyman Service where he worked until closing the businesses a few years ago.

He loved his cottage at Lake Erie and spent most summer weekends fishing with anyone who was visiting.

Jerry and Joanne spent winters in Fort Myers Florida at Granada Lakes park. Gerry fished there and enjoyed cooking for socials, golfing and enjoying the generally nice weather with other snowbirds.

Jerry also volunteered for scouts as a leader.

He was a friend to many, a mentor and a father figure to all. He was incredibly giving of his time, talents, tools etc. His work ethic was equal parts drive, determination, and stubbornness. He definitely was unable to sit still. He in fact drove to Florida once in a cast after surgery. Nothing could stand in his way.

We knew when there was a project from work, to “doing down” tomatoes he was always focused but socialized making the work fun. From making sausage, to filling cannolis to pasta the cooking was fun and very tasty. He came from Stelco after and spoke with my Grandma on how to make dough for strudel. Everything interested him.

My adopted sister the Rev. Debbie McMillan perhaps said it the best: “Jerry was hospitable and generous with his time, his talents, and his skills. Everything I learned, hospitality and having an open home where everyone can feel so comfortable that they don’t want to leave, I learned from him.
I’m grateful to God for giving all of us who knew Gerry the gift of his life. I wouldn’t be the person I am today, even the minister I am today if it wasn’t for his example in my most formative years. Gerry you worked hard, you played hard, and now, you can rest hard. We love you and miss you.”
