My dad was a Merchant Marine veteran from World War II and survivor of a shipwreck off the coast of Nova Scotia on the Atlantic Ocean. He was one of three survivors left from 25 people on the life raft.

He was married to my mom, Lisette Alfreda, for 60 years and had three children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He loved to work with his hands and made many things out of wood, such as picnic tables, Christmas decorations, chairs, hope chests and more.

He was a CBer named “Barky” and would attend the Jamborees and coffee breaks.

He was a hard worker and always had a job. His last job of many years was at a Chemical Plant called Diamond Shamrock in west Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

He was great at wheeling and dealing and always provided a house and vehicle for his family.

He always provided us children with toys he never had as a child himself.

Dad loved animals, and monkeys were his favourite. He was called “The Monkey Man”, because of it. We had St. Bernard dogs, Susie and Casey, as well as four monkeys (one Recess, two Squirrel monkeys, and a Wooly monkey named Cheeco). Rabbits, raccoons, kangaroo rats, cats, and other dogs were a big part of our family.

My dad loved all people and was always there to help those in need. He was friendly with the poor and never judged them.

The last two years of my dad’s life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
